24 SPEED: ALUMNI FILMMAKING COMPETITION SCREENING

Established in 2007, the annual 24 Speed Filmmaking Competition challenges participants to create a short film in 24 hours, including an assigned genre, prop, and line of dialogue. This screening features a showcase of the 2025 entries in the 24 Speed competition created by W&M alumni, culminating in an “awards ceremony” for the “top” films, including comments from “prestigious judges” and a completely legitimate Audience Award as voted on during the screening!

W&M PROGRAMMING
The 2025 Ampersand Festival features guest conversations, films, and industry summit events from dozens of W&M alumni, students, and faculty.
Film highlight programming includes a film screening and conversation event with McVeigh Producer Joe Pirro ‘08 and Executive Producer Milan Chakraborty ‘00.
Live performance programming includes Like Minds, a comedy quiz show hosted by Joey Bland ‘00, produced by Greg Hess ‘03, and featuring Andrea Coleman ‘00 and Sara Schaefer ‘00, an original one-woman play written and performed by Andrea Coleman ‘00, a physical theater and dance performance by Dance faculty member Joan Gavaler and collaborators, an improvised soundscape performance by Music faculty member Victor Harris, and a script-read of a play written by Professor Kevin Smith.
Author talk programming includes a program and book signing with Professor Brian Castleberry.
Industry Summit sessions are presented by John Francis ‘03, Denzel Dykes ‘18, and many others.
