Planning a staycation for spring break? The library has some exciting adventures planned for the week!

Kids:

Monday, April 7 – Saturday, April 12WRL Bookmobile S.T.E.A.M. Fest at the Airport: Around the World with 80 Books Soar into spring break with the Bookmobile! Daily STEAM Fest programs celebrating the art of kite making and flying. Travel to different continents each day of the week through exciting stories. 10 am – noon – Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport

Tuesday, April 8 – DIY Fairy Gardens Enjoy fun gardening activities during Spring Break! Make a DIY fairy garden. Make a magical miniature garden with a real succulent plant and decorations. Pick up a ticket at the Youth Services desk starting 30 minutes before the program to save your spot. 11 am – James City County Library

Wednesday, April 9 – Meet the Fire Truck Come see a real firetruck up close and learn all about fire safety! This exciting event is presented by the Williamsburg Fire Department. Don’t miss this opportunity to educate yourself and your family on important safety tips while interacting with our local heroes! 12-2 pm – City Square Williamsburg Library

Saturday, April 12 – Egg Decorating Love decorating eggs but not the mess? Drop by Stryker Center from 1-4pm to paint, draw, sticker and decorate plastic eggs! We provide everything you need –just bring your creativity!  1 -4 pm – Stryker Center

Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio!

Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! Located in the James City County Library.

Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. Families are invited to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library.

Monday, April 7Nintendo Switch Open Play Start spring break with Nintendo Switch play! Drop in for a variety of Nintendo Switch games on the big screen. Enjoy Mario Kart 8, Mario Party Jamboree, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Recommended for ages 9+. 2-4 pm – Williamsburg Library Theatre

Tuesday, April 8 – Welcome Spring! Welcome spring by creating a cute sign using the Glowforge to celebrate the season! Bring your creativity to the Makerspace . All supplies provided. Limit 6; call (757) 741-3300 and select option 2 to register. 6 PM – Williamsburg Library

Thursday, April 10 – “Hatchet” Escape Room Are you up for an escape room adventure? This is a special escape room experience based on Gary Paulsen’s classic survival story “Hatchet”. Pick up a ticket at the Youth Services Desk starting 30 minutes before your chosen time slot. Sessions at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm – James City County Library

Friday, April 11 – Spring Cardmaking Stop by for an afternoon of creative cardmaking. We will have plenty of supplies to make personalized cards for a variety of occasions—birthdays, holidays, to say thank you, or just because! No registration required, while supplies last. 3 pm – Stryker Center

Saturday, April 12 – Teen Ice Cream Making Learn to make ice cream by hand and make a couple flavors to try! For ages 13-18. 1 – 2 pmJames City County Library

Daily Teen Room Check out the brand-new teen room at the James City County Library! This room features fun tech including virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, an arcade game table, and lounge seating. For ages 13-18. James City County Library
