Williamsburg Presbyterian – Music programs for children and youth
Choirs open to all Middle and High School age Youth from September through May
The WPC Youth Choir offers opportunities for young people to develop their musical abilities as they prepare both vocal and bell music for use during worship. You’ll learn the language of music and the basics of vocal technique. If this is your first time joining a choral or bell choir you’ll experience the unique satisfaction that making music for worship provides. Director: James F. Weaver. jfweve@gmail.com. Sundays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Junior Choir and Joy Ringers introduce 3rd – 5th grade elementary school age children to the fundamentals of musical notation, vocal and handbell technique, sacred music history, and the Christian liturgical calendar. The language of music incorporates ratios, fractions, proportions and thinking in space and time that can also help young minds as they encounter basic and advanced mathematical concepts. The Junior Choir is also a place where children learn the importance of Christian discipleship, reinforcing all that they encounter in Sunday School and the other Christian Education opportunities they participate in. The members of the Junior Choir are encouraged to pray for and support one another. The Choir participates in worship several times a year. Jim Weaver, Director jfweve@gmail.com. Thursday Afternoons 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Carol Choir offers very young children a first encounter with organized music making. The emphasis is on simple rhythmic and melodic exercises, using simple musical examples to introduce young minds to the idea that music, like English, is a language that they can learn and enjoy. The Carol Choir meets at the same time the Junior Choir does, making it convenient for families with children in both age groups to attend.
