Youth Events:
January 6 & 7 – Baby Lapsit Storytime Baby Lapsit Storytime is a storytime program especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games.

January 6 & 7 – Baby Stay and Play Stay after storytime to chat with other caregivers while your baby has fun with toys. On the first Monday and Tuesday of the month, experts from Child Development Resources will answer your questions about your baby’s development.

January 6, 7 & 8 – Toddler Storytime Toddler Storytime is a program designed for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years.

Monday, January 6 – DIY Night: Tea Light Planets Transform a ping pong ball into a glowing planet with a battery-operated tea light, paint, and your imagination. Recommended for ages 7-12. 6 PM – James City County Library
Tuesday, January 7 – Cena con Cuentos Cena con Cuentos es un programa de lectura en español para familias hispanohablantes con niños de 0 a 10 años de edad. Se ofrece el primer y tercer martes del mes en el Stryker Center (412 N Boundary St), de las 5 a las 6.30pm. Cada vez habrán actividades, leeremos cuentos, y disfrutarán de una deliciosa cena para toda la familia. La participación es gratuita. It is offered on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Stryker Center (412 N Boundary St), from 5 to 6:30 PM. Each program combines stories, songs, activities, and dinner for the whole family. Participation is free. Wednesday, January 8 – Learn to Play Chess Learn and practice the classic game of chess. Recommended for beginners ages 6+. 5 PM – Williamsburg Library
Friday, January 10 – Up, Up, and Away Storytime Join the Bookmobile team for an all ages storytime at the Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport, 100 Marclay Drive. 10 AM – Williamsburg Jamestown Airport
Saturday, January 11 – DIY Native Plant Greenhouses Plants that are native to our area provide the best food and shelter for birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife. Come learn more about native plants and how to turn a recycled plastic container into a mini-greenhouse to grow your own native plants! All supplies will be provided. Recommended for ages 9-12. 2 PM – Williamsburg Library
Sunday, January 12 – Beanbag Book Club Join us for our youngest book club! There’s no requirement to attend every meeting and new participants are welcome any time. This month we’ll read, craft, and play games around the book Rise of the Earth Dragon by Tracey West. Includes a copy of the book to keep. For ages 5 – 8. Space is limited; pick up a free ticket at the Youth Services desk beginning 30 minutes before the program begins. 1:30 PM – Williamsburg Library
Sunday, January 12 – Paws to Read with K-9 Connection Reading is even more fun when you can share it with a fluffy, four-legged friend, and it’s a great way for beginning readers to practice with a patient audience. Drop in to read a story to trained therapy dogs, no registration required. 2:30 – 3:30 PM – James City County Library
Daily – Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio! Come in from the cold to the James City County Library. Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! James City County Library
Daily – Story Trail Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. We invite families to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library. All Day – James City County Library

Friday, January 10 – Serge a Simple Blanket Get to know the library’s serger by completing this simple, cozy project. You will need to provide your own materials. You will need to bring: 1.5 yards of 100% cotton flannel fabric and 1.5 yards of blizzard or anti-pill fleece fabric, both pre-washed. For ages 13+. Saturday, January 11 – Cricut 101 – Learn the basics of how the Cricut works and the different things you can make. For ages 13+. No registration required. 11 AM – Williamsburg Library
Saturday, January 11 – Anime Afternoon Enjoy an afternoon of anime and snacks in the theatre. For ages 9-18, no registration required. 2-4 PM – Williamsburg Library
Daily — Teen Room at the James City County Library Check out the brand-new teen room at the James City County Library! This room features fun tech including virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, an arcade game table, and lounge seating. For ages 13-18.

Tuesday, January 7 – Art House Café Film Series This film series brings art house film flavor to your Tuesdays. Plus, meet new friends, hear from special guests who are film experts, and have a discussion after the film. Maria by Callas (2018) PG “There are two people in me. I would like to be Maria, but there is the Callas I have to live up to.” In this documentary, director Tom Volf assembles interviews, performances, and private letters and memoirs to portray the extraordinary operatic career of the Greek-American diva Maria Callas, a private woman in conflict with her own legend. 1hr 59min
Thursday, January 9 – Senior Advisory Team We’d like to hear from library users 55-plus! What would you like the library to do to support your needs and interests? Please join us for an informal conversation about senior-focused programs and services. 10 AM – James City County Library
Makerspace Open! Check out our new creative space at the Williamsburg Library. Explore 3D printers, Glowforge 3D laser printer, Cricut, and sewing machines during walk-in hours. Read more about the Makerspace. Walk-in hours: Mon-Thurs: 1-5 PM, Sat & Sun: 1-5 PM on the 4th weekend of the month.
