Williamsburg Christian Academy Back to School with New Balanced Year Calendar

Williamsburg Christian Academy opened its doors to students this week with a new balanced year calendar. “The BYC,” as termed by Head of School Johnny Graham, supports student learning needs with a shorter summer break while providing multiple longer vacations throughout the school year. While students are starting now in mid-July (and missing out on the most oppressive heat period in the Historic Triangle), they will later have over 16 days off in October, three weeks off for Christmas, and a two-week Spring break.

WCA’s Upper School began its classes for grades 6 through 10 on Monday, July 19th. “I was nervous about the calendar change when the school announced last year,” said Sophia, a sophomore at WCA. “But I like the frequent breaks, and the earlier start to the school year supports our learning needs.”

While the Upper School opened on Monday, the Lower School began its classes on Tuesday, July 20. “I’m going to feel like I have a lot more free time with all the breaks we have this year. People learn a lot here because the teachers are great, and the schedule gives us more time with them,” said Wilson, a fifth-grader.

Williamsburg Christian Academy opened with an enrollment of nearly 200 to begin the school year. WCA is still enrolling, and interested parents should call (757) 220-1978 or email admissions@williamburgchristian.org to schedule tours or discuss admission specifics. With WCA’s students already in school, prospective families can also have their student shadow a WCA student for the day to get a feel for WCA student life and its International Baccalaureate program and decide if the school is right for them. “Students who enroll after the opening of the school year won’t be behind given the merits of our individualized program,” explained Graham, “It’s certainly not too late to enroll.”
