WATA Announces Changes to Transfer Station and Customer Service Center 2013

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia (December 3, 2013)- Due to the Williamsburg Outlet Mall closing at the end of December, Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) will move its northern transfer station (Hub) to Wal-Mart at 731 Rochambeau Drive and the customer service center will move to the Williamsburg Transportation Center at 468 North Boundary Street beginning January 2, 2014.

WATA buses will stop operating at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall (WOM) at 9:00 pm on December 31, 2013. Buses do not operate on New Year’s Day, but when service resumes at 6:00 am on January 2, the Blue, Purple 1 & 2, and Tan routes will no longer stop at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall. The current stop at Wal-Mart will be the new hub and is located on the northern end of the parking lot near Sonic. WATA will have staff on site all week to assist passengers with questions and concerns as well as to help them navigate the changes.

Purple 1 will continue to go to Warhill High School and Thomas Nelson Community College on the way to Wal-Mart, making the right hand turn off Centerville Road, down to Warhill High School and then back to Richmond Road. This will be the only time these stops are serviced because Purple 2 will no longer have stops at Warhill High School and Thomas Nelson Community College.

Two stops will be transferred from the Tan line to Purple 1. The stops at the Miller Mart on Richmond Road and on Lightfoot Road will transfer to Purple 1. The Tan line will go to the Great Wolf Lodge before going to Wal-Mart.

The WATA store located in WOM will also close at 9:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and will open at the new location on January 2.  The WATA Customer Service Center provides customers with easy access to transit information and advance ticket sales. The location at the Transportation Center will also include an employee lounge where drivers may eat and relax during breaks. Hours of operation will be Monday – Saturday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Updates will be posted on goWATA.org throughout the month as well as on our Facebook page by searching gowata.
