Watermen’s Museum is reopened for the Season!

The Watermen’s Museum is an educational museum that demonstrates the role Chesapeake Bay watermen (from pre-colonial to modern times), played in the molding of our nation.

But, you’ll be surprised at the changes they’ve made.  The Gift Shop has gotten a complete face lift with new shelving, a lot of new inventory items, and a modern Point of Sale computer system.  The exhibits have been changed a bit. and they’ve done some facility upgrades in the downstairs bathroom and upstairs office areas.

But, outdoors is where you’ll see the most change.  They’ve been really busy installing security cameras, adding in new sidewalks, trimming hedges and trees, installing oyster shell mulch, planting grass and flowers, repairing our pier railings, installing a storage shed and a blacksmith forge shed, and much more.

But, the most important part of the Museum is still the great story we tell of the Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay. From the indigenous Virginia Indians, though colonial, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, and the 20th Century, to today, professionals on the water have worked hard to feed and defend Americans.

So, come see us.  They promise it will be a Museum experience like none you’ve ever had before.

Check the museum’s calendar often for new historical exhibits and displays, crafts and demonstrations of the trade, summer camp programs for kids, and other special events https://watermens.org/
