The Williamsburg-James City County Parent-Teacher Association Council will host a forum for School Board candidates from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 8, in the Williamsburg Library auditorium at 515 Scotland St.
The W-JCC PTAC is a nonpartisan group representing the PTAs of each public elementary, middle, and high school in the Williamsburg-James City County School Division. The event is intended to help citizens make informed choices about issues that affect our families, schools, and community.

All six candidates on the ballot have accepted the invitation to participate. Seats in three districts are up for election this year:
•       Berkeley District: John D. “Rio” Riofrio and Sandra S. Young
•       Roberts District: James W. Beers and Petra E. Nadal
•       Stonehouse District: James P. Nickols and Holly A. Taylor

The Williamsburg-James City County School Board has seven members. The Williamsburg City Council appoints two members to represent schools in the city, and the remaining seats are elected by district.

The format will give each candidate two minutes to present a prepared opening statement, followed by questions from the public. Moderator Meredith Collins, publisher of Williamsburg’s Next Door Neighbors magazine, will read the questions, which may be submitted at the event (cards will be provided) or in advance via email to wjccptac@gmail.com. Answers will be limited to one minute. The forum will close with a two-minute statement from each participant.

In addition, The League of Women Voters of the Williamsburg Area will be available to help citizens locate their voting districts and register to vote in the Nov. 3 general election.
