Volunteer at Peninsula Fine Arts Center
Peninsula Fine Arts Center (PFAC) is seeking docents for its upcoming exhibition Retooled: Highlights from the Hechinger Collection, running January 29 through May 1, 2016.
Volunteers are invited to Docent Training on January 29, 2016 from 10:00-11:15 a.m. Training will be at PFAC and all materials and information will be provided. Please arrive at 9:30 a.m. for coffee, donuts and socializing. RSVP to cdonne@pfac-va.org.
Docents do not need prior experience, but should be comfortable speaking in front of diverse age groups of 30 visitors or less. Docents must be dependable and are expected to show up for their tours 15 minutes early. Tours generally last 30-40 minutes.
ReTooled: Highlights from the Hechinger Collection, runs January 30, 2016 until May 1, 2016. ReTooled profiles 28 artists from the Hechinger Collection including Arman, Anthony Caro, Richard Estes, Howard Finster, Red Grooms, Jacob Lawrence, Fernand Léger, Roger Shimomura and H.C. Westermann; photographers Berenice Abbott, William Eggleston and Walker Evans; and pop artists Jim Dine, Claes Oldenburg, and James Rosenquist. The show features more than 40 imaginative paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and photographs, presented in four categories: Objects of Beauty; Material Illusions; Instruments of Satire; and Tools: An Extension of Self.
Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive within Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News, VA. The center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays; PFAC is closed on Mondays. Admission is regularly $7.50 for adults, $4 for children (ages 6-12) and free for children 5 and under. Annual membership is $40 for individuals and $60 for families.
