ILLYRIA, a Musical 12th Night
June 25 – July 6
The musical version of Twelfth Night by John Briggs and Eric Frampton
If you saw the 2006 season of VSF you won’t forget our premiere of this delightful musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Nightthat keeps much of the Bard’s language and adds musical numbers that would do Disney proud. Since our first production of it the show has gone on to successful runs at the Lake Tahoe and Georgia Shakespeare Festivals and now returns to the PBK stage for a glorious revival. “You can’t help but be enchanted” remarked theVirginia Gazette; “I haven’t laughed so hard for a long time” commented the Sussex-Surry Dispatch and Portfolio Weekly called it “a crowd-pleaser for the whole family. Illyria is a blast.”
JULIUS CAESAR
July 10 – 20
It’s been many years since VSF revisited any of the “roman” plays so why not start with the most famous one of all? “But Brutus is an honorable man” proclaims Mark Antony at Caesar’s funeral but that’s only part of a ploy to turn the masses against this nobleman and his band of conspirators. You may have been assigned this in middle or high school but you’ll never understand the power of this tragedy until you see it played out in all its glory onstage.
