Thursday Afternoon Films at the Library – Jan. theme is “Bad Brunette”
January is “Bad Brunette” month for the Thursday Afternoon Film Series with several movies about dark-tressed femme fatales.
The movies will be shown in the Williamsburg Regional Library Theatre located at 515 Scotland Street every Thursday afternoon. Admission is free and reservations are not required. For more information, please call 259-4070.
January 7 – The Little Foxes (1941, 2:00-4:00)
Bette Davis plays a greedy southern matriarch who ruthlessly manipulates her family in pursuit of wealth and power. William Wyler directed this superb drama which was nominated for nine Academy Awards. Based on Lillian Hellman’s stage play, the film costars Herbert Marshall, Teresa Wright and Dan Duryea.
January 14 – Ladies in Retirement (1941, 2:00-3:35)
An isolated county home in 19th century Britain becomes the setting for mystery when a paid companion (Ida Lupino) brings her deranged sisters to live with her flighty employer. This suspenseful little known gem costars Elsa Lanchester, Evelyn Keyes and Louis Hayward.
January 21 – Leave Her to Heaven (1945, 2:00-4:00)
Gene Tierney is chilling as a pathologically jealous woman who will allow nothing to come between her and her unsuspecting new husband. Cornell Wilde, Jeanne Crain and Vincent Price costar in this outstanding psychological thriller.
January 28 – Harriet Craig (1950, 2:00–3:40)
Joan Crawford is typecast as a domineering wife who will go to any lengths to maintain control over her family and servants. This is the third film version of the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway play “Craig’s Wife” which was written by Grace Kelly’s playwright uncle, George Kelly. Renowned Interior Decorator William Haines created the lavish home design set.
