Talk Back following Friday Night’s performance of Gem of the Ocean…
Friday, February 28, as there will be a talk- back following the show.
“Don’t you know life is a mystery? I see you still trying to figure it out. It ain’t all for you to know. It’s all an adventure. That’s all life is. But you got to trust that adventure.” ― August Wilson, Gem of the Ocean
In Gem of the Ocean, August Wilson sustains African culture, highlighting the importance of reaching backwards to pay homage to the ancestral spirit which offers the strength, wisdom, and guidance needed to push forward in the contemporary world of racism, discrimination, and oppression. Written in 1904, this play carries a weight that continues to leave audiences feeling every word and movement, over one hundred years later. For this reason, we invite you to be a part of this experience and join William and Mary as it showcases August Wilson’s award- winning play.
While any day of the performance will be wonderful to attend, we issue a special invitation to the show on Friday, February 28, as there will be a talk- back following the show. A talk- back allows the actors to speak of their experience with the production, the director to speak on what inspired her throughout the process, and the audience to ask questions to learn more. Additionally, we are pleased to welcome Kemati Porter who will be at this post- show event, the former Producing Artistic Director of ETA Creative Arts Foundation in Chicago.
