Review on Modern Living With Oils’ dōTERRA® Introduction to Essential Oils Kit & TerraShield Repellent

This summer we were given an opportunity to review a really cool line of products provided to us from Modern Living With Oils.  If you are already familiar with essential oils and their uses or if you are new to the whole thing this line of products from dōTERRA® might be for you.

The first product  tried was the dōTERRA® Introduction to Essential Oils Kit – including Lavendar 5ml essential oils, Lemon 5ml essential oils and Peppermint 5ml essential oils.

This is a wonderful starter kit.  There are almost endless uses for these three oils.  Luckily, Modern Living With Oils provided us with at link to 101 Uses for the Intro Kit.

I right away I added lemon oil to my already homemade kitchen cleaner (1 cup water, 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup rubbing alcohol) which also cleans glass like a dream.  Now my homemade cleaner cleans well and smells nice too.

I used the lemon oil and a paper towel and cleaned my stainless appliances.  They are sparkling and smell amazing.  My stainless microwave over my oven is actually grease free – that never happens.

I have been dropping a few drops of lavender oil  in the kids’ bath at night and not only do they love it but it calms them right down.   Last night a few drops of lavender on my little son’s feet and he relaxed and fell asleep.

I have also been using lavender oil with good success on bug bites that I have over scratched and it seems to help them heal.  It also stops the itching of bug bites.

I also tried the Whipped Coconut Body Butter:
1 cup unrefined coconut oil
A few drops of your favorite dōTERRA® essential oil or blend (I use a little of all three)
Directions: mix on high speed with a wire wisk attachment for 6 – 7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency.  Transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature.  Tip: Store in refridgerator in warmer weather.  This lotion is so luxurious and smells refreshing.  Your skin will thank you for this one, and you can change the essential oil everytime for a different scent and effect.

The children and I enjoyed The Great Lemon Bomb toilet cleaning experiment.   We liked it so much we did it in every toilet in the house.  It works, it cleans and it brings a little science into your cleaning routine.  I highly recommend trying this at least once!  Click link for directions for the The Great Lemon Bomb

Peppermint I have been using for headaches and though it has not cured one it definitely helps alleviate the pounding.

Just smelling the peppermint or the lemon peps the children up and lifts their moods.

This product smells great – a far cry from regular bug repellent.  I used it based on Modern Living With Oils directions and diluted it with water and put it in a small spray bottle they provided.  I have used it many times this summer and have had good success.  Our yard is mosquito heaven and so even with a deet bug spray I still get bites.   My children managed to stay bug bite free even on a particularly buggy day this summer.  The best part about this repellent is that my children are not covered head to toe with chemicals.   We are all really enjoying this product.
Over all I would buy these products.  The lemon was my favorite ( I used every last drop) and I will clean my stainless appliances regularly just so  that my whole house smells like this oil.   The lavendar was my second most used and would recommend this oil.  The peppermint was good too but neglected a little since my son does not like the smell of peppermint and my daughter does; it so there was a bit of a battle around peppermint.  Personally I find the smell alone of this oil to be worth purchasing.  It wakes you up the moment you inhale.  The TerraShield is a good substitute for coating your kids everyday in chemical bug spray.  I personally loved the smell.  I could wear it year round as a perfume!
