Review – Disney On Ice presents Frozen
Disney On Ice presents Frozen! opened last night at the Hampton Coliseum and boy was it one amazing show. In true Disney style, every detail of the production was perfect – from the costumes to the lighting, special effects to the choreography.
The crowd loved the introduction, which included classic characters like Mickey, Minnie and Goofy, as well as favorites like the Princesses and Pumbaa from the Lion King. Kids and grown-up alike were singing and clapping along with the lively songs.
After being welcomed by our old friends, the show gracefully transitioned into the story of Frozen. With a seemingly effortless performance by the cast, it was very easy to forget that the reindeer on the stage was actually a skater in a costume! They even managed to recreate the larger-than-life snow monster that frightened Anna and Kristoff away from Elsa’s ice palace! The troll scene was genius, and who doesn’t love “Fixer Upper”?
The actors portraying Princesses Elsa and Anna were especially wonderful. Becky Bereswill as Elsa is graceful and regal, and Taylor Firth as Anna is just as bubbly and energetic as her on-screen counterpart. Both women captured the spirit of their characters while performing some pretty amazing (and difficult) skating elements.
The coronation day choreography was delightful, with the cast gracefully floating across the ice in their beautiful ball gowns. And since the music of Frozen is so naturally contagious, the crowd easily joined in as the cast sang songs like, “Do you want to Build a Snowman”, “For the First Time in Forever” and Olaf’s “In Summer”. Needless to say, when Elsa sang “Let it Go”, the kids practically jumped out of their seats with joy.
It’s not easy to find a show that is entertaining for people of all ages, but Disney hit a home run with this one. Frozen is a family-friendly, exciting and interactive experience for the whole family. In our book, definitely a night well spent.
