Did your 1-year-old vacuum stop working? Come to the Repair Fair & Recycling Expo – Registration is Open
Come to the Repair Fair & Recycling Expo November 16th – Registration is Open
The Annual Repair Fair & Recycling Expo registration is now open! The Clean County Commission is hosting this free event on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lafayette High School, 4460 Longhill Rd. In celebration of America Recycles Day, the event will provide drive-thru recycling drop-off for plastic bags, glass, food scraps for compost, and tires, as well as donation acceptance of furniture, household goods, building materials and shoes. Simultaneously there will be fixers indoors repairing lightly broken items. As a bonus, free shredding will be provided too. The event will help mend items such as jewelry, bikes, and small appliances, and items needing welding, woodworking or sewing.
This event is open to all James City County residents. No registration is required for outdoor recycling and donation drop-off.
To ensure that the proper tools and supplies are present to fix items, please complete the Repairable Item Interest Form and provide a detailed description of the repair needed, including photos. Please note that all forms will be evaluated to determine which items can be repaired during the fair. A confirmation email will be sent for selected items with further information.
The Clean County Commission is also looking for volunteers to help run the event and “Fixers” to help citizens repair their salvageable items. To volunteer at the event, please sign up here. If you have a special skill, particularly sewing, jewelry repair, or computers, and are interested in helping your neighbors, please fill out the Fixer Interest Form. Selected Fixers will receive a monetary stipend of $75 for their time, as well as lunch. Tools and supplies will be available to use onsite.
This event is free. Repairs must be registered in advance. The event hosts do not warrant any of the repairs, are not liable for any damage to or loss of property, and participation is at the risk of the participants.
