The course is the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Boating Safety Class, offered by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary members of Flotilla 67. The class is free and if you pass the final exam, then you are certified to operate a vessel (including PWCs/jetski). Topics covered in this course include: how to safely trailer your vessel on land, selecting the right boat for you, basic navigation rules (ie. rules of the road), legal aspects of boating, how to deal with emergencies, and in general how to avoid emergencies and how to have a great and safe trip every time you leave port.
Special Notes: Many insurance companies will not cover individuals who have not completed this course (or any other NASBLA-approved course). In addition, by 1 July, 2014, anyone operating a jetski or anyone operating a boat who is under the age of 45 MUST be certified.
