October 2013 Kids Make a Difference – Carter and Miles Thrash

Thrash picture
Congratulations to our October winners,
Carter and Miles Thrash!
Carter and Miles Thrash make it a priority to do a service project every summer. This year they set up a drink stand outside of the RFW YMCA to raise money for Imagine No Malaria. Every $10 they raised covers the cost of distributing an insecticide treated mosquito net to affected areas in Africa. The Thrash boys collected $504.35 X 3 (matching funds from the boys’ grandparents) = $1,513.05. This equates to 151 mosquito nets! Thanks again to the R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA, and its members who made this effort a success. (See pictures below).
In recognition of the Thrash boys’ efforts to make such a difference, School Crossing made a donation of $50 to Imagine No Malaria.  As Carter said, “That’s five more nets!” (Carter is holding an example of one of the nets in the photo above with Sherry Phipps of School Crossing.)
