Newport News One City Marathon – March 13

Description
Take a tour of Newport News… marathon style! Runners will begin their journey in the stunning setting of Newport News Park where they will enjoy the allure of spring in a landscape as historical as it is beautiful. From there the next 26.2 miles will include the very best Newport News has to offer, finishing, and fittingly so, at the Newport News Victory Arch. The race will be followed by the One City, One Celebration in Victory Landing Park.
For those interested in using this race as a Boston Qualifier, the course has been measured for USATF certification. The course certification code is VA14074RT. View Certification map here.
Marathon Participants Receive

Course Information
- Water Stations
Water stations will be located approximately every two miles along the marathon route. Gatorade will be provide at every other water station beginning with water station #2. GU Energy Gels will be provided at Water Station #7 (Mile 14) and #10 (Mile 20).
- Portable Toilets
For your convenience and use during the race portable toilets will be available at every water station.
- Wave Stations
Spectator gathering points, cleverly termed “Wave Stations” will be located throughout the marathon route. Here your family, friends and neighbors can enjoy the One City experience while cheering you on to the finish line! Wave Station locations are listed below:
- Course Timing
The marathon will utilize ChronoTrack B-Tag timing. The timing chip is attached to your bib and will record your time as you cross the Start/Finish line.

- Pace Teams
Pace Teams are comprised of experienced marathon runners who help others achieve their performance goals. Pace times will range from 3:30 finish pace to 4:30 finish pace.

Race Requirements
- Marathon Pace Requirement
The Newport News One City Marathon has a 7-hour time limit. This translates into a 16:00 minute per mile pace requirement for participants. Runners unable to maintain the required pace may be picked up and transported to the finish.
- Packet Pick-up & Finisher Items
Participants must attend packet pick-up at the One City Health & Wellness Expo to receive their bib and technical shirt. If you are picking up a packet for another runner you must fill out and bring this form below, along with a copy of their picture ID. Finisher medals will be distributed to finishers during the race. None of these items will be mailed to registrants who did not participate. We encourage all runners to pick up their packet at the expo. If you are running the marathon and your circumstances require you to wait until race morning to claim your packet, this will be done at the start line in Newport News Park.
Parking and Shuttles
Parking will be available at the finish of the race. Hampton Roads Transit shuttle busses will run from 5AM-6AM, leaving continuously as busses fill up. We encourage all runners to arrive as early as 4:30AM to not be rushed on race morning. The last shuttle will leave at 6AM. Shuttle busses will be in the parking lot located on 23rd St. and West Avenue in downtown Newport News.

Runners may choose to be dropped off at the start line. However, shuttles will not be available to transport runners back to the start following the race.
Gear Check
Gear check for the Newport News One City Marathon will be located at the start area at Newport News Park. Following the start of the marathon, the gear check vehicle will transport all of the checked items to the finish to be picked up by participants upon completing the race. Participants must use the clear bag provided to them by race organizers. No exceptions will be made.
