New Quarter Park Youth Mountain Bike Race Series for Children Ages 3 to 18 – Sept 11, 25 & Oct 2
York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s (PRT) Youth Mountain Bike Race Series at New Quarter Park invites kids ages 3 to 18 to enjoy the park’s specially designed mountain bike trail for children! The 2016 fall Youth Bike Race Series will run on the following Sundays:
- Sunday, September 11, 2016
- Sunday, September 25, 2016
- Sunday, October 2, 2016
Registrations are accepted on each race day from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. The first race begins at 1:30 p.m. Inclement weather or poor trail conditions could result in a cancellation. If that occurs, Sunday, October 9 will be a make-up race date.
The park’s youth mountain bike trail has three separate age-group/skill level courses: the “short course” is designed for kids six and under who ride push and balance bikes and for elementary/novice (no training wheels) riders; the “medium course” is designed for elementary/intermediate riders, usually in middle school or ages 11 to 14; and the “long course” is designed for high school riders ages 14 to 18.
Two open race classes for advanced riders are also planned: one for kids 13 and under, and another for those 14 and older.
Parents must be present and riders must wear helmets. A geared bike is necessary for middle, high school, and advanced riders. Push bikes, balance bikes, or strider bikes are suggested for younger participants. No training wheels, pegs, or axle extenders are allowed.
The registration fee for the entire series is $25 per child ($20 for each additional child in the same family) or participants can register for $10 per race on race day. Each registrant will receive a number plate for their bike at registration and a ribbon after each race. A Youth Bike Series downloadable registration form is available online on the York County PRT’s New Quarter Park website page at http://bit.ly/11qJG0t.
New Quarter Park is located at 1000 Lakeshead Drive in York County near the Queen’s Lake neighborhood. Once past the main gate, participants and their families will be directed to the youth mountain bike trail and its age-group courses on the right.
