New Book Groups – History and Mystery – Williamsburg Library

NEW BOOK DISCUSSION OPPORTUNITIES FOR MYSTERY AND HISTORY READERS

Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) is launching two new special-interest book discussions this fall. A Crime and Mystery group will meet the 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Williamsburg Library. A History and Biography group will be held at the James City County Library on the 4th Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. “This is a great chance for readers of all kinds to meet and talk about the books they like,” said Andrew Smith, Readers’ Services Librarian. “Whether you like fiction or non-fiction, you’ll be able to talk about your favorite titles, and hear about other peoples’ favorites as well.”

The Crime and Mystery group will be exploring books about Police Procedurals on September 16. These stories follow the typical steps used in police work, while also looking at the effect of policing on the men and women who solve these crimes. Fictional police procedurals range from Wyoming’s mountains to Edinburgh’s mean streets, and from gently amusing to brilliantly gory. In nonfiction, cold case squads, CSI investigators and dogged detectives seek clues to solve real-life crimes that can be just as exciting as fictional ones.

For anyone who loves reading about the past, the History and Biography group will be meeting September 24. “We’re going to be all over the map, and sometimes off it,” said Smith. “You can come talk about anything related to historical fiction, history from any period, or the biography of someone who shaped or lived through historical events.”

There’s no registration and readers are welcome to attend some or all of the meetings. For more information, contact Williamsburg Regional Library’s Adult Services at 259.4050.
