Model Train Show at the Library, Dec. 7

FORDS COLONY MODEL RAILROAD SHOW RETURNS TO JAMES CITY COUNTY LIBRARY

The ninth annual Fords Colony Model Railroad Show returns to the James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Rd., thisSaturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The library will be roaring with activities, including dedicated hobbyists running trains through a variety of town and country scenes.  Engineers will be operating layouts ranging from the giant garden-sized trains down to traditional HO sets found under many Christmas trees.  They’ll also show how real railroads load their freight and move from track to track.

Hands-on activities include helping to assemble tracks to make a shared operating layout of the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo.  Artists of all skills are invited to make rocks, trees, and buildings to decorate or take home, or help paint a background for the community train set.  Parents are invited to assist younger builders.

The restored Norge Depot will be open for tours, and volunteers from Operation Lifesaver will demonstrate railroad safety for children and adults.

All events are free of charge.  Visit wrl.org/events or call 259-4050 for more information.
