What drew you to teaching, teaching at Williamsburg Christian Academy and was there any particular reason you chose to teach 2nd Grade?
I have been teaching second grade at Williamsburg Christian Academy since August, 2013. This is my first year as a classroom teacher and I love every minute! I have grown so much as a person and a teacher over the past few months because of the wonderful students, parents, and colleagues I am blessed to be surrounded by every day. WCA is a visibly unique place. It is a community filled with partnerships, innovation, personalized learning, and biblically-integrated curriculum. I have seen every teacher and faculty member go above and beyond to personalize learning and to meet the individual needs of each student. Each child is a treasured gift from God and to witness the countless partnerships at this school inspires me more and more each day. I was initially drawn to WCA because of the impact I saw that it had on my brother’s life and so many others I have known that have been/are affiliated with the school community. The fruit that I saw coming from WCA is something I have never seen before and I wished to be a part of it. Ultimately, God has a purpose and plan for each of us, and this is where I was called to be. I honestly cannot help but smile every time I enter our building. There is so much to be thankful for and many small blessings that are making such a great impact on our community.
What do you want your children to be able to do when they leave your classroom – that you know will prepare them for further education and life in general?.
I want my children to be leaders. I want them to have the confidence to be the best person they can be and to fully use the gifts and talents God has given them to positively influence their decisions and the world around them. By the time June comes around, I want my students to be well-equipped, both spiritually and academically, to take on the next challenge and adventure in their lives with courage, strength, and faith.
If you could ask parents to do one thing to help their children’s academic success what would it be?
Parents are a child’s first teacher. To help further their children’s academic success, I would encourage parents and family members to make every moment a learning moment and READ, READ, READ! Read to your child, with your child, and listen to them read. Books invite and challenge us to be creative and to dive into endless adventures. Enjoying and discussing a story with your child is one of the best things you can do! A suggestion for how to begin this at home is to start a book club with your child. Read the books that your child is reading and make it a point to have discussions about the text and connections you can make between the characters and your own lives. Be a part of your child’s learning!
Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you and/or your class that you find you post, read, share or just meditate on?
Joshua 24.15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” In my classroom, we understand that we are a family and a team, with God as our coach. Each day, we strive to make at least one positive change in the world and to be Christ-centered leaders in our classroom, school, community, home, and the world. As a class, we make a promise to one another to be kind, Christ-like, and to be the best that we can be. Everything we do and say should be to serve God and to serve one another. We know that each member of our team is vital and each of us brings unique talents, gifts, strengths, and weaknesses that are essential to our family.
Are you from Williamsburg? If not, where are you from, what brought you here?
I moved to Williamsburg when I was in elementary school. After graduating from Bruton High School, I attended college in Ohio. After four years in the cold, I decided it was time to come home, where I wouldn’t have to scrape ice off my car all through April! After returning to Williamsburg, my appreciation for this historical area has grown. It is such a privilege to live in such a historical and vibrant community, where I was able to make many memories. No matter where God takes me in the future, Williamsburg will always be my home.
And we think Williamsburg is lucky to have Ms. Prezioso as a community member and teacher.
