Meet a Meteor Day! Full Day of Activities Planned on Aug. 10 at the Virginia Living Museum
Join the Virginia Living Museum as we celebrate one of nature’s greatest light shows, the Perseid Meteor Shower! One of the most popular meteor showers of the year, especially in the Northern Hemisphere, this shower peaks on warm summer nights and will produce its greatest number of meteors August 12.
Come to the museum and learn about this amazing meteor shower and why it is important to preserve the night sky.
Planned all day activities:
- Meet a Meteor
- Guess which is Meteorite or Wrong?
- Throw balls of paint to create beautiful Impact Art
- Get a little dusty while making Craters
- Use the power of magnetism to collect tiny meteorite particles during Meteorite Mining
- Get a perfect strike while Bowling with Dinosaurs

Cooking Up a Comet

How to Watch a Meteor Shower
Time: 11:15am, 1:15pm & 3:15pm

Learn the best way to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower and touch a meteorite.

Explore the past, present, and future of our Solar System and the landmark discoveries scientists have made sending spacecraft to visit tiny worlds.
A Giant Leap: Exploration Beyond the Moon (narrated by Tim Allen)
Time: 1:30pm
Look back at the history of lunar exploration and then at some of the teams racing to land a robotic spacecraft on the moon and win the Google Lunar XPRIZE. See a successful launch, landing and tour of the lunar surface, and a visualization of a future settlement on the moon.
Cost: VLM members free, non-members $4 plus Museum admission.
Some activities are weather dependent. All activities included with regular museum admission with the exception of Planetarium shows.
