Marvel Universe Live! – Review
If you want your kids to think you’re a real-live super hero, take them to see Marvel Universe Live! The show is two hours of wall-to-wall family friendly entertainment. I couldn’t tell who was more excited to see the show, my kids or my husband. Walking into the coliseum, we were surrounded by parents sharing in the excitement of seeing their childhood heroes in action.
The show opens with Thor’s devious brother, Loki, hatching a villainous plan to create a Cosmic Cube, which would give him infinite power over the universe. All of the Marvel heavy-hitters are called in to try to put an end to Loki’s evil scheme. The cast included some of our favorite heroes from the Avengers and the X-Men, as well as your friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man. The bad guys also brought their A-team; Red Skull, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus, just to name a few.
All around, the show is very entertaining. Well-choreographed hand-to-hand combat sequences are enhanced by the impressive lighting, pyrotechnics, and score. The character traits are leveraged nicely to deliver a variety of action. Spider-Man and Green Goblin take to the air for their battle, while Captain America headlines a motorcycle scene (a clear fan favorite) that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The variety goes a long way to keep the audience engaged.
The cast members are clearly talented. Whether they were performing aerial acrobatics, flying high through the air on their motorcycles (yes, the air!), or scaling the walls of the set, everything was well executed and highly synchronized.
Marvel Universe Live! is a highly entertaining, great way to spend time with your family. We saw the show at the Richmond Coliseum, but fear not. The show will run at the Norfolk Scope Arena later this week. Don’t miss it!
