Shiver Me Timbers! Pirates Invade The Mariners’ Museum and Park This Weekend

This coming Sunday, October 13, pirates will invade The Mariners’ Museum Park for the second annual Mariners’ ARRRtober Festival: Trails, Ales, and Pirate Tales. The festival will feature a marathon and relay on the Noland Trail, pirate encampments and storytelling, Pirate Costume Contest, pumpkin painting, games, hayrides, craft beer, food trucks, live music, and much more.

The festival portion of the day runs from 1 – 5 p.m., with the Noland Trail Marathon and Relay beginning at 7 a.m. The relay is produced by Flat-Out Events and gives runners the opportunity to run the only race held on the Noland Trail. Runners can take on the challenge solo, or team up with friends and complete the race as a relay. Festival entrance and craft beer tasting tickets are included in registration for the runners.

The festival features a craft beer, cider, and wine tasting component. Unlimited tasting tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 and include a souvenir tasting glass and free admission to the festival. Single drink tickets will be sold day-of for $5, and tasting tickets will be sold day-of for $25 if still available. Museum Members get a discounted price of $20 for tasting tickets.

Participating breweries include: Alewerks, Billsburg Brewery, Bold Rock, Caiseal, Devils Backbone, Heavy Seas, New Realm Brewing, Oozlefinch, Sly Clyde Ciderworks, and Tradition Brewing. The Williamsburg Winery will also have several wine selections available.

Local food trucks and vendors will be present at the festival providing food for purchase and include Southern Hospitality, Nosh, Pelican Pete’s Pizza, Sliders 757, Stuft, Kilwins of Williamsburg, and Corny Fred’s.

The family-friendly day is filled with pirate-themed activities — learn to be a pirate in Blackbeard’s Scallywag School, enter the Pirate Halloween costume contest, and enjoy pirate encampments and storytelling. Live music will be provided by the Brandon Bower Band. Guests can also experience pumpkin decorating, face painting, family games, the Teeny Tiny Farm petting zoo, and shuttle hayrides. The Pirate Halloween costume contest will be held at the main stage at 3:15pm. There will be prizes for the first and second place in the adult and kids costume category.
