Kids Make a Difference – February 2014
Congratulations to our Kids Make a Difference winner, Finley Hooker-Tidwell! She is a second grader from Clara Byrd Baker Elementary, and she has chosen to give her donation to CHKD. Read her story below:
“Hi! My name is Finley Hooker-Tidwell! I am 7 years and 9 months old!! The 9 months is important because that means it is getting closer to my birthday!!! My birthday is January 15th. My birthdays are a lot of fun and they help kids at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk! I host a Party with a Purpose each year!! My Mom started with my 1st Birthday and we have continued the tradition! My Mom lets me decide each year if I want to continue the tradition. I love helping other kids! Instead of gifts for me, my friends bring a donation for CHKD!! When I was just a few days old, I began having seizures. The doctors in Williamsburg sent me to CHKD!! My Mom says it is a GREAT place and I agree! I had a stroke! Now my brain is unique! I work hard to be smart and I am! I have hosted 7 Birthday Parties with a Purpose for CHKD and raised over $7,000.00! I have also spoken to big groups of people (at least they look big to me) about how AWESOME CHKD is! I am planning my 8th Birthday Party with a Purpose! This one is going to be different….it is a Duck Dynasty themed party. Each year, after my Birthday party, I deliver the big donation to the hospital. It is a fun day but not as fun as the party!
It is important for kids like me to help other people. I am lucky to have CHKD in my area. CHKD helps a lot of kids and I like helping them too!! My Mom says even though I have a hole in my brain I am very smart. I think it is smart for kids to help other kids! I am glad to keep helping CHKD and the kids there.
Thank you for recognizing kids that help others!!!!
