A Kickoff Event for the 20th Annual Relay For Life of Williamsburg will take place Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center, located at 5301 Longhill Road in Williamsburg. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend to learn about the exciting plans for the 2020 Relay For Life of Williamsburg and how they may participate.

During the event, organizers will announce the special theme, team incentives, and new activities that will take place during the 20th Annual Relay For Life of Williamsburg on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 6 pm to 12 midnight at Lafayette High School, 4460 Longhill Road, Williamsburg.

Relay For Life is a nationwide grassroots fundraising event in which individuals and teams of participants in over 6,100 communities across the country celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost, and commit to fight back against the disease.

During the family-friendly event, individuals and teams will walk the track and will participate in a variety of fun activities. Activities will include live music; special theme laps, including laps for survivors and caregivers; a luminaria ceremony; sales of food and craft items by individual teams and concession vendors; children’s activities; a Survivor Dinner and a Reflection Tent for Survivors and Caregivers. 

EVENT CHARITY: All funds raised during the Relay For Life support the efforts of the American Cancer Society in providing support services for patients, educational programs and information on cancer treatments, transportation assistance, free lodging at Hope Lodge facilities, and more 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the months leading up to the Relay itself, teams raise money in a variety of ways, including golf tournaments, yard sales, dinners and musical events. Local businesses partner in support of these efforts.

EVENT COMMITTEE: The 2020 Relay For Life of Williamsburg is being planned by Event Chair Kaye Vickerman and a volunteer committee of Williamsburg residents. Additional volunteers are needed to help plan and execute the event.


SURVIVOR RECEPTION AND OPENING LAP:  A reception for cancer survivors, caregivers and guests, catered by Sal’s by Victor, will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 5 at Lafayette High School. Following the 20th Annual Relay For Life of Williamsburg opening ceremony, cancer survivors and caregivers will join together to walk the opening lap of the Relay For Life of Williamsburg, unified in victory and hope, while the rest of the event participants surround the track to cheer them on. This empowering celebration is just a small piece of the special experience of Relay For Life.
