1. How long have you been teaching and teaching at Magruder and as a Pre-School teacher?
I have been teaching Early Childhood for 20 years. This is my 10th year at Magruder teaching preschool.
2. What drew you to teaching, teaching at Magruder?
Working with children and have a positive impact on their growth and development has always been a passion of mine. I moved to Virginia with my husband and son ten years ago and at that time Magruder was the school with an opening, I have been blessed to be able to continue at Magruder for the past ten years.
3. What perspective have you gained from being around preK children all day?
Not everyday will be perfect, not everything will go as planned but that’s OK!
4. What do you want your students to be able to do when they leave your classroom – that you know will prepare them for further education and life in general?
I strive for my children to leave my classroom with problem solving skills, independent skills and the skills needed to gain and maintain positive social interactions with both their peers and adults. While I also work to gain the academic skills needed for school success, having these life lessons is of utmost importance for their future.
5. If you could ask parents to do one thing to help their children’s academic success what would it be?
Just read to your child every night! Sing nursery rhymes and songs.
6. Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you and/or your class that you find you post, read, share or just meditate on?
“The Best Thing About Being a Teacher is That it Matters. The Hardest Thing About Being a Teacher is That It Matters Every Day”. Todd Whitaker
7. Are you from Williamsburg? If not, where are you from, what brought you here
I am not from Williamsburg. I grew up in Ohio and worked for 10 years as Preschool teacher there. My husband was looking for a job and Virginia had many opportunities. He gained employment here.
