Homeschooling, with Help from Classical Conversations
If you’ve ever considered homeschooling using a classical, Christian philosophy, but didn’t want to go it alone, come see CC in action this summer. There are currently 3 communities in the New Kent, Toano/Norge & Williamsburg areas. The New Kent community will meet on Tuesdays from 9AM-3PM at Providence Church (4001 New Kent Highway, Quinton) starting August 23.
Director, Myra Hayes CCofQuinton@gmail.com. The Toano/Norge community will meet at Smith Memorial Baptist (6515 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg) starting September 6. Director, Donna Walls dccc99@yahoo.com. The Williamsburg community will meet at Living Proof Baptist Church starting August 24. Director, Jodi Swan jodiswan11@gmail.com
Classical Conversations communities meet once a week for 24-32 weeks during the school year. Parents attend the weekly sessions, glutes in the chairs, and learn the classical curriculum right alongside their children. Over the course of the year, your children will learn hundreds of facts, often memorized by singing, and regain their love of learning. But, be prepared for new kinds of questions on the home-front, such as:
· Did Genghis Khan really rule the Mongols? Or was he just grumpy?
· Bach wrote so many compositions that it would take 1 person 40 years to copy them all. Did you know that he had 20 kids? How much do you think they all got in allowances?
· Did you know that Albert Einstein died five years after the start of the Korean War? Did you, Mom? Did you?Every year a free 3 day practicum is open to individuals who are considering homeschooling as well as those who currently do homeschool. There is even a camp available for your kids to attend while you sip coffee and put up your feet. The practicum is free for adults and a small fee for kids attending camp.
