James City County Police to offer firearm safety class

In November, the James City County Police Department will offer free firearm safety classes to the public. The one session class will cover basic safety, handling and storage.

Interested adults can attend Nov. 12 or 25.

The class will meet at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. The class does not include hands-on training and personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Call the James City County Police Department at 757-253-1800 to register.

Grant funding received from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe was used to purchase class materials and gunlocks. Free gunlocks are available at the class or by calling Sergeant Steve Humphries at 757-603-6022
