Great Citizen Science opportunity! VLM TURTLE CENSUS – July 10

Experience Turtle Census

Join Virginia Living Museum on Saturday, July 10th from 8:30am-10:30am for a hands-on experience and become part of a Citizen-Science team! Every year in June and July our Herpetology team sets up live-capture, baited hoop-net turtle traps in Deer Park Lake behind the Museum to catch and survey as many turtles as possible. VLM staff and volunteers gather all of the turtles that are collected in these nets and spend the morning identifying the species and sex of turtles, cleaning the shell to remove any stuck-on algae, and using a special marking system to determine whether each turtle is new for the year or a recapture from previous years.

You will be handling wild turtles during this event. By purchasing tickets, you are assuming all risks. Tickets will be limited, $45/member & $70/non-member – reserve your ticket: https://2398.blackbaudhosting.com/2398/Turtle-Census.
