Free Rides & Bike Locks to National Bike to Work Day Participants from Williamsburg Area Transit Authority – Friday May 16, 2014

Williamsburg Area Transit Authority Offers Free Rides & Bike Locks to National Bike to Work Day Participants

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) will participate in National Bike to Work Day  by supporting the City of Williamsburg’s BikeWalk to Work Day celebration on Friday, May 16th. Anyone boarding a WATA bus with a bike or that presents an official Free Voucher for Williamsburg BikeWalk to Work Day may ride a WATA bus or Williamsburg Trolley for free all day on May 16th. Vouchers for BikeWalk to Work Day can be found at www.gowata.org or at the City offices.

WATA will also be giving away bike locks while supplies last at the Williamsburg Transportation Center to bicyclists who ride the bus on Friday. The locks are made possible by a grant given to WATA from the estate of Mr. Benjamin Altshuler through the Williamsburg Community Foundation. Mr. Altshuler was a local resident who had a passion for community activism and public transportation. This grant money allowed WATA to install bike racks around the Greater Williamsburg area.

WATA and the City of Williamsburg hope that promoting the use of bicycles and public transit to get to and from work will help increase public confidence and participation in programs that promote greener, multi-modal forms of transportation in the greater Williamsburg Area.

Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) provides safe, efficient and accessible public transit to residents and visitors in James City County, Williamsburg, and the Bruton District of York County. For more information about WATA, visitwww.goWATA.org or call the WATA office at (757) 220-5493.
