William & Mary Radio Station to Hold Free Music and Arts Festival

Williamsburg, March 26, 2014

WCWM-FM 90.9, the official radio station for the College of William and Mary, will be holding WCWMFest, a free music and arts festival on April 5 in the Sunken Garden on campus. The festival, which is open to the public, will present several bands and music groups in addition to sketch comedy acts and other arts presentations.

Most notable, the radio station has booked the popular band The Dodos to be their headliner. The Dodos are a San Francisco-based band that was formed in 2005 and have achieved national popularity. Described as an Indie folk/pop band, the group has released five albums nationwide and are currently on tour across the United States and Canada. Their 2011 album, No Color, featured popular artist Neko Case and topped the Billboard 200 at number 70.

Other bands performing at the festival include Japanese band THE SUZAN and Richmond, Virginia, bands The SLEEPWALKERS and Mirror Kisses. The William and Mary group 7th Grade Sketch Comedy will also perform. Website: http://web.wm.edu/so/wcwm/parallax/index.html

The festival will take place from 2 PM to 11 PM on Saturday, April 5, in the Sunken Garden. It is free and open to the public, and families are welcome. In addition to support from the college, the event is sponsored by several local companies including Computer Concepts and Brickhouse Tavern. Wine from Saudé Creek Vineyards will be available for purchase, and the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg will be selling beer to support its ELIMINATE fundraiser. Food will be available for purchase from several local vendors.

WCWM is the student-run radio station for the College of William & Mary and was started in 1959. The station has a broadcast range of approximately 30 miles, reaching from the outermost edges of Richmond to Newport News.  Disc jockeys are either current students or faculty members at the College who volunteer their time. The station holds concerts and music festivals throughout the year on and around campus.
