Your Flamenco Magic Night Performers:
La Magdalena
Magdalena is an award-winning dancer, teacher, and choreographer trained in NYC and Seville, Spain. In 2013 she moved to Washington D.C. and inspired by her little dancing daughter she created Flamenco 4 Kids! ™ – a community based organization which now serves over a dozen local schools.
Magdalena is known for her focus on the rhythm and musicality of Flamenco Dance. She expertly weaves extensive knowledge of the craft with her academic background in education. Magdalena is the proud recipient of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 DC Arts & Humanities fellowship.
Ela Razon
Ela began training in modern dance at the age of 10 in her native Manila, Philippines. She moved to the U.S. in 2003 and has since studied and performed extensively with local dance companies throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. In 2022 Ela launched “SondeBaril” – an artistic partnership with musician Yiyi Orozco which explores new work and the continued growth of Flamenco as an art form.
Francisco Javier Orozco (Yiyi)
Francisco was born in Barcelona of an Andalusian family and introduced to flamenco rhythms at the age of four. He was trained by his father, flamenco singer “Joselón de Jerez” in his Spanish peña named “Peña Fosforito.” Considered a child prodigy of percussion, Yiyi began his professional career at the young age of 12 and has been touring ever since with top dance companies throughout Europe, Japan and in the US. Critics worldwide have quoted Yiyi’s performance as “fiery,” “riveting,” and his percussion techniques executed with “machine-gun” speed that possesses and casts a spell.
Ricardo Marlow
As a young child, Ricardo was introduced to the guitar by his father, the eminent classical guitarist John E. Marlow. After receiving a degree from the James Madison University School of Music, he took up the flamenco guitar and studied with master Gerardo Núñez in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain.
Since then, Ricardo has performed across the U.S. with many prominent dance companies. He is sought after both as a soloist and accompanist and has graced the stage with such artists as Jesús Montoya and Esperanza Fernández.
An accomplished “Gipsy Kings” style Rumba performer (guitarist and singer), Ricardo can also be found performing at local venues on a regular basis throughout the Washington D.C. area.
