Yorktown Tea Party 1774 – Thursday, November 7, 2024 – See SCHEDULE OF EVENTS below
It was the splash heard ‘round the world. When Thomas Nelson, Jr. and his group of fellow patriots marched to the Yorktown waterfront and threw two chests of tea overboard, they helped spark a revolution! Join us as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of this historic event.
The weekend is filled with festive and patriotic events to celebrate this important time in our nation’s history. They will have concerts, reenactments, ship tours, a Colonial Tea Ball, reenactments, a maritime market, and much more! Join Yorktown as they spill the tea…literally!
The free, accessible Yorktown Trolley will be in operation beginning at 11 a.m. during this event.
Schedule of Events
10 a.m.
- Commemoration of the 1774 Yorktown Tea Party at the Riverwalk Landing Pier
- 9:45 a.m. – A fifer and drummer will perform.
- 10 a.m. – Welcome, Speeches, and Historian Jim Gallagher reads the York County Resolves
- 10:30 a.m. – Procession to the tall ship Luna for a re-enactment of the dumping of the tea
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- 250th Anniversary Yorktown Tea Party Exhibition in the Freight Shed
- Free deck tours aboard Jamestown Settlement’s Godspeed
- A photo station to pose as a patriot dumping tea will be available in the Freight Shed.
- A tea smuggling exhibit will be on display at the Watermen’s Museum.
- Visit living history stations and tour several historic buildings along Historic Main Street.
6 – 8 p.m. 250th Tea Party Public Concert at the Watermen’s Museum
6 – 6:45 p.m. – The Teacup Sallies perform
7 – 8 p.m. – Vexine performs.
