About the Early Music Ensemble

The Early Music Ensemble plays Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music on period instruments. Our collection includes recorders (SATB sizes), viols (3 sizes), lute, vielle, bray harp, hurdy-gurdy, rebec, rauschpfeife, krummhorns, cornamuse, a quintet of gemshorns, baroque oboe, baroque flute, baroque bows for string players, and access to several harpsichords.

The Early Music Ensemble performs at least one concert per semester, and has the opportunity to play special events around and off campus. The Early Music Ensemble has performed several concerts at Historic Jamestowne’s Memorial Church and Colonial Williamsburg’s Dewitt Gallery.

Membership does not require an audition, but members should have music reading skills.  Contact J. Gabriel Stone, Director for more information.
