October: Halloween Spooktacular! 

October 3: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) NR 

Halloween night becomes chaotic for a newlywed (Cary Grant) when he discovers what is buried in the basement of his beloved aunt’s home. Frank Capra directed this hilarious screwball comedy that costars Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, and Priscilla Lane. 1hr 58min 

October 10: The Changeling (1980) R 

A composer (George C. Scott), in mourning for his deceased family, moves into an abandoned mansion, but soon finds that it’s actually occupied by a very angry spirit. This superior ghost story is quite frightening. Directed by Peter Medak, the film costars Trish Van Devere and Melvyn Douglas. 1hr 47min 

October 17: Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) PG 

A pair of twelve-year-old boys take action when several citizens of their small midwestern town fall prey to a peculiar circus and its mysterious proprietor. Jason Robards and Jonathan Pryce star in this Disney version of Ray Bradbury’s classic novel. 1hr 35min 

October 24: Hallowe’en Party (2011) NR 

Hercule Poirot is called in to investigate when a child who professed witnessing a murder is found dead at a Halloween party. David Suchet, Amelia Bullmore, and Zoë Wanamaker star in this TV version of Agatha Christie’s novel. 1hr 29min 

October 31: Two Shows Today 

2:00 pm Newhart: “Take Me to Your Loudon” (1987) TV-G 

A Halloween costume party at the Loudon’s Vermont inn goes hilariously off the rails when the locals suspect that a UFO has landed in town. This excellent episode of the Newhart TV series stars Bob Newhart, Mary Frann, and Peter Scolari. 30min 

2:30 pm The Night That Panicked America (1975) NR 

A recreation of Orson Welles’s infamous 1938 radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’s War of the Worlds, and the tumultuous effect it had on people throughout the country. The TV movie stars Vic Morrow, Cliff De Young, Meredith Baxter-Birney, John Ritter, and Will Geer. 1hr 32min
