Special Event: Elegance, Taste, & Style Lecture
In 1968, sixteen-year-old Mary Doering (born in 1952) received a bequest from her Great Aunt, a trunk filled with Edwardian clothing. This gift ignited Mary’s lifelong passion for clothing, creating one of the greatest private collections of early textiles, accessories, and costume assembled in the United States. Join Neal Hurst, curator of textiles and historic dress, in a lecture that leads you through the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg’s newest exhibition: “Elegance, Taste, and Style: The Mary D. Doering Fashion Collection.”
Arrive early to stroll through the newly opened gallery, before gaining an inside perspective on its development. More information and tickets
