Naturally Speaking: Dr. Holly Gaff – The Challenging and Complex Ecology of Ticks
Tick-borne diseases are increasing globally, prompting a growing interest in reducing their impact. However, ticks and the pathogens they carry remain poorly studied, partly due to the complexity of their biology. The dynamics of these diseases involve multi-year interactions between weather, habitat, environmental factors, and the availability of hosts at each tick life stage. The Old Dominion University Tick Research Team has been monitoring tick populations and their associated pathogens through an active surveillance project since 2009. This presentation will explore the findings from this long-term project, considering the region’s complex ecology and its influence on tick populations. For more information, see here.
