Naturally Speaking: Dr. Arianna Kuhn – Salamander secrets: The True “Hidden Gems” of Virginia
This presentation invites the audience to discover a fascinating group of creatures often called “The hidden gems of Appalachia” – salamanders! Though many are small and rarely seen, these incredible animals showcase a beautiful range of colors and patterns. What’s even more impressive than their appearance are the stories of how these little predators navigate streams, ponds, caves, and mountains to hunt, reproduce, and overcome environmental challenges. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for these amphibians, which have their greatest biological diversity in Southwest Appalachia, and learn why they are the focus of research at the Virginia Museum of Natural History.
