Master Blacksmith Panel Discussion from 1 to 2 pm at Hennage Auditorium

Head to the the Hennage Auditorium on Monday, June 17, for a special panel discussion featuring:

  • Jonn Hankins: Head of the New Orleans Master Crafts Guild, Jonn will discuss preserving cultural legacies of excellence in the building arts community and nurturing a new generation of masters in the field.
  • Darryl Reeves: A master blacksmith with half a century of experience in restoring and fabricating traditional and contemporary ironwork in New Orleans. Darryl will talk about the importance of mentorship and apprentice training in transferring trade skills across generations.
  • Karina Roca: An apprentice ironworker working with Darryl Reeves and a student in the Historic Preservation program at Tulane University. Karina will share her experiences as an apprentice and her optimistic outlook for a future in historic restoration and preservation.

The discussion will be led by Ken Schwarz, a master blacksmith with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
