Create Your Own Mali Mud Cloth

Jamestown Settlement – Saturday June 22 from 1 pm – 4 pm

In connection with Jamestown Settlement’s ongoing Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibition, create your own Mali mud cloth design with artist and costume designer Nfon Asuquo during a drop-in make and take workshop from 1-4 p.m. on June 22 at Jamestown Settlement.

A native of Virginia Beach, Nfon Asuquo has exhibited nationally and his work was featured in Jamestown Settlement’s 2024 Black Artist Showcase. As a clothing designer, painter and graphic designer, Asuquo explores community outreach by participating in non-profit asphalt mural collaborations with the city of Norfolk. His style is unorthodox and expressionist, drawing inspiration from the Neo-expressionist movement that motivates him to show the challenges he has faced from his viewpoint of the world around him.
