The Celtic Film Series in the Williamsburg Library Theatre runs the 2nd Thursday of each month from September 2024 through May 2025.
January 9th: “In the Name of the Father” (1993) Based on the true story of Gerry Conlon, a Belfast youth who – along with family members and friends – was wrongly convicted of bombing two pubs outside of London in 1974. R, 2hr 13m (note 5:30pm start time)
February 13: “Once” (2007) A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story. R, 1hr 26min
March 13: “Bad Day for the Cut” (2022) A middle-aged Irish farmer, who still lives at home with his mother, sets off on a mission of revenge when his mother is murdered. Not Rated, 1hr 39min
April 10: “The Boxer” (1997) Young Danny Flynn (Daniel Day-Lewis) is released from prison 14 years after “taking the rap” for the IRA and tries to rebuild his life in his old Belfast neighborhood. R, 1hr 53min
May 8: “Angela’s Ashes” (1999) – Based on the best-selling autobiography by Irish expatriate Frank McCourt, Angela’s Ashes tells the story of a family in pre-war Limerick, Ireland and the struggle to overcome poverty. R, 2hrs 25min (note 5:30pm start time)
