Afrofuturist Afternoon & Symbolism and Storytelling with Ruth E. Carter: Hands-on Crafts
October 5 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Visit Jamestown Settlement on Saturday, October 5, to explore the “Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design” special exhibition. Enjoy drop-in, hands-on programs that focus on fiber art and crafts inspired by Ruth E. Carter’s costume designs, with all materials provided. Activities include fabric dyeing and zine making. While touring the museum galleries, stop by pop-up history stations to learn about African artifacts and view reproductions. After the craft sessions, join a gallery talk led by Harvey Bakari, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s curator of African History and Culture. All activities are included with museum admission. Residents of James City County, York County, and Williamsburg, including William & Mary students, receive free admission with proof of residency.
This is the first half of Ruth E. Carter’s Afrofuturist event on October 5th, 2024. The second half is in the afternoon and does require a ticket purchase.
This event will take place in Presentation Hall. Learn more.
