Afrofuturist Afternoon & Symbolism and Storytelling with Ruth E. Carter: Symbolism & Storytelling with Ruth E. Carter

Ruth E. Carter will discuss Afrofuturism storytelling and the symbolism within our culture. After the conversation, guests are invited to a reception in the Jamestown Great Hall from 6 to 8:30 p.m., featuring food, a cash bar, and live music by the Hampton University Jazz Trio. At 6:30 p.m., Ruth E. Carter will sign copies of her book, The Art of Ruth E. Carter: Costuming Black History and the Afrofuture, from Do the Right Thing to Black Panther, which will be available for purchase at the museum shop. This event will take place in the Robins Foundation Theater.
“Symbolism and Storytelling with Ruth E. Carter,” including the reception and book signing, is $25. This ticketed event is not included with museum admission. Students can purchase discounted tickets for $15 by providing their school name and student ID during registration; a student ID will be required to pick up the ticket at the event. Tickets will be available for purchase on Thursday, September 5. Space is limited and event registration for each individual is required to reserve your seat. All tickets are non-refundable.
