Dancing Fairytales • Ages 3-5
Wednesday, April 30, 10-11 a.m.; $10

In this interactive workshop, students will wander through some of our best-known fairytales such as the Three Little Pigs, while learning about physicality and non-verbal communication. This highly kinesthetic workshop keeps students on their feet and fully engaged in their imagination as they explore ways to retell timeless classics through movement and dance. Kidz Clay • Ages 10-15

Make a mess, make some art and make your mark…in clay! Learn hand-building and explore the potter’s wheel. No experience needed. Teen’s Mini Easter Eggs Workshop • Ages 13-17
Friday, April 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; $30

Participants will use homemade vanilla and chocolate buttercream fillings to roll out and shape into mini-Easter eggs. The eggs will be dipped in chocolate and decorated with icing flowers. Bring two large airtight containers to take home your creations and tie back long hair. Please note food allergies with registration. Instructor: MaryAnn Boho. 

Oil Painting • Ages 16+

Participants will learn a variety of cookie recipes, how to roll out homemade cookie dough and how to make spring pastel glaze icing! Cookies will be cut out in fun shapes such as flowers, bunnies and carrots! Participants will also be baking and decorating cupcakes with pastel buttercream icing adorned with spring decorations. Participants will develop traditional and experimental art skills using a variety of materials, creating art inspired by contemporary and historic artists who use patterns. 4-H Green Thumb Exploration Camp • Ages 9-13 NEW!

Find your Green Thumb with JCCPR and JCC 4-H where kids will discover how everything connects to agriculture! From the foods we eat to the clothes we wear; agriculture plays a role in everyday life. It’s not just about farming! Through activities like agriscience experiments, soil and plant life science, composting demonstration, farm-to-table experiences, and sustainable practices, participants will explore the world of agriculture and grow healthy habits. This camp will offer a fun way to build essential life skills, including leadership, teamwork and problem solving. Plus, participants will gain a deeper understanding of healthy living and making smart food choices while cultivating a love for the environment. 

Kids Clay Camp • Ages 10-15
Monday-Friday, April 7-11, 1:30-3:30 p.m.; $100

Enjoy spring break while hand building with clay. A variety of techniques will be explored such as pinch pot creations, building from slabs, carving and more. Before & After School Programs

Registration for REC Connect and Teens on Point (T.O.P) Summer Camp 2025 is underway! Registration forms and program information are available online or for pickup at any payment site.  Laurel  Lane and Stonehouse locations are FULL. 

All registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to space availability. The program, for ages 5-10, operates Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. until school starts and school dismissal until 6 p.m. Registration forms and program information are available for download here or for pickup at any payment site. The program is offered at eight WJCC elementary schools; the James River Elementary School is operated by the Boys/Girls Club, call 757-525-0005 for details. Warhill Sports Complex – Outdoor Fitness Court (near basketball courts)
The outdoor Fitness Court® at Warhill Sports Complex is now open! The Fitness Court was funded by a grant from the Williamsburg Health Foundation to provide free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for citizens in James City County. A Certified Personal Trainer will conduct open orientations at the Fitness Court and will demonstrate and explain the seven exercise stations that use body weight for workouts. Stay fit and get your body moving without heading inside a gym and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App in the Google Play or Apple App store. “Take Your Best Shot” Spring Photo Contests • All Ages  FREE!
Attention amateur photographers! We’re seeking photographs of park landscapes and scenery, wildlife and of people enjoying our parks. Grab your camera and explore the Greensprings Interpretive Trail, Powhatan Creek Trail and Jamestown Beach Event Park. Photographs will be judged by the public and selected images will be featured on the County’s website, social media and in the kiosk at the respective park locations. Celebrate Trails Day | Marathon on the Trails • All Ages 
Celebrate Trails Day, held annually on the fourth Saturday of April, encourages Americans to enjoy trails all over the nation. James City County Parks & Recreation invites you to run, walk or bike a marathon distance of 26.2 miles on our local trails by April 26. Register online by April 20 for just $5 to receive a medal, recommended trail routes and full event details. Various parks, facilities, trails and trail surfaces will be recommended to complete this challenge; or you can also forge your own path to reach your 26.2-mile goal on your own trails or blueways! Come explore us AFTER DARK during the full moon each month March-November! Freedom Park closes at sunset; however, Multiuse Trail 3 only remains open for this self-guided hike. After sunset, visitors may use Multiuse Trail 3 only, all other areas of the park are closed. The full moon hikes use an out-and-back one-mile, paved ADA-compliant trail winding through wooded forest and the Colby Swamp. Users must depart Multiuse Trail 3 by the closing time. Freedom Park Field Lab • Ages 6+
Freedom Park
Think of this as a field trip for your school, friends or home-school group! This hands-on experience allows kids the opportunity to enhance classroom learning in a natural environment. Each program includes instructors and volunteers to help guide learning in the topics listed below. Reservation requests must be made at least two weeks in advance and depend on staff availability. Program fee is $6 per youth participant (groups of at least five are required) and includes access to the Freedom Park Classroom; large groups of 25 or more will be provided a Freedom Park shelter rental included with their fees. Pickleball Clinic: Reset/Third Shot Drop • Ages 18+

As players face more skilled opponents, mastering the reset shot becomes crucial in pickleball. Learn techniques for executing reset shots, when to use them and strategies to enhance your game instead of relying on power to beat your opponents. 

Beginner Adult Pickleball League • Ages 18+ NEW!
Wednesdays, April 16-June 4, $15/per player
Veterans Park
Designed for beginners and new pickleball players, participants will enjoy eight weeks of league play against multiple opponents. Players can sign up as a team or as an individual. All beginner league play happens on Wednesday evenings, with participants playing in a round robin format. For questions, please call 757-259-5355. 

Intermediate/Advanced Adult Pickleball League • Ages 18+
Mondays & Tuesdays, April 14-June 3; $15/per player
Seven weeks of league play ending in a week of playoff games. Players sign up in teams of two. Each team of two players will compete in either the women’s, men’s or mixed doubles matches over a seven-week period in a ladder format, with teams moving up or down the ladder based on the results of the previous match. Game schedule and times to be determined. Fee covers needed supplies as well as end-or-season awards and social.

Spring Adult Co-ed Soccer • Women 18+, Men 30+
League begins Sunday, April 13
Warhill Sports Complex
Seven weeks of league play culminates in end-of-season playoffs to determine the league winner. Register your team under the captain’s name. Teams must verbally commit before April 6 by emailing Joshua.lavrinovich@jamescitycountyva.gov. All players must register individually but a full team fee of $750 is due upon registering.

We start at the James Madison Museum in Orange, VA and have lunch in a local restaurant. Next, join us for a one-hour guided tour inside Madison’s home as we delve into the histories and legacies of James and Dolley Madison, the Enslaved Community and the Constitution. Spots available: 28.

The James City County Recreation Center is closed Sunday, April 20, in observance of Easter. All County parks, including park stores/offices, are open Easter Sunday.
