Engage 2045 Needs Citizens to Complete Surveys by Sept 2nd…
Have you watched the recorded Aug. 10 presentation/webinar for the Engage 2045 yet? If not please do that first, and then complete the two online questionnaires by Sept. 2.
The questionnaires are titled Establishing Our Goals and Exploring Our Future Alternatives and can be accessed by visiting the Virtual Assembly web page. Since James City County is not able to hold public meetings in person due to COVID-19, the County really needs you to respond thoughtfully to these questionnaires so that your voice can be counted.
If you have not been “engaged” yet, start by reading the overall Engage 2045 website for the Comprehensive Plan update at jamescitycountyva.gov/engage2045 . This plan sets the trajectory for all the planning in James City County for the next 25 years.
This is important stuff folks. If you wonder why there is too much development or too little development in the area you can make your opinion hear and matter toward the next 25 years of County planning and development. Those who engage decide. You can still “Engage” by Sept 2, 2020 by participating in the two questionnaires the County has posted online.
Since Engage 2045 is now entering the “Alternative Futures” phase of the planning process and builds off the public input priorities developed last fall and these questionnaires are built off of the information gathered thus far.
The first questionnaire is:
1. Establishing Our Goals Questionnaire
The 2045 Comprehensive Plan will be built around goals that express the vision for the County’s long-term future. Once established, these goals will help to drive the County’s policies and actions in the years ahead. The County needs your help to ensure that the goals established for 2045 reflect our community’s priorities.
They ask you to read the information in the questionnaire carefully and then tell them if you believe each goal should be retained in the 2045 Comprehensive Plan or if it should be changed or eliminated. There is also an opportunity for you to suggest new priorities or goals. Here is the link to the Establishing Our Goals Questionnaire.

2. Exploring Our Future Alternatives Questionnaire
How do we go about Exploring Future Alternatives? Based on the public input received in the first phase of this process, the County planning team has developed two planning scenarios to help us understand possible effects of alternative policies on our community’s future. The questionnaire will show you how these scenarios look and what their impacts may be and will ask you how you feel about each. To find the short descriptions of the scenarios and the questionnaire visit here.
It is not too late to participate in the planning. Learn about these alternative futures and share your opinions by watching the Virtual Exploring Our Future Alternatives Assembly and completing the questionnaires here: jamescitycountyva.gov/3795. You only have until Sept 2nd.
