Easy Seed Starting / Restoring Pollinators – Feb. 20, 2016
LOCAL AUTHOR AND GARDENER TO SPEAK– On Saturday, February 20th, Lisa Ziegler, local author and Newport News flower grower, will present a double header program, held at the James City County Recreation Center at 5301 Longhill Road in Williamsburg. The program will run from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon.
EASY SEED STARTING, the first session, includes the practices that are at the root of the success and beauty of Lisa’s flower farm; starting from seed and caring for the soil as the most precious gem. The program includes how to plant seeds directly in the garden and starting indoors using the English soil blocking method.
RESTORING POLLINATORS, the second session, shares how to bring back flowers to the vegetable garden and landscape to provide habitat and food sources for native pollinators. Learn how Lisa’s large community of native bees and other pollinators came naturally as a result of growing flowers without chemicals.
THE GARDENER’S WORKSHOP POP-UP SHOP will be offered during the break and immediately following the programs. Gardening tools, supplies and seeds will be on sale to benefit the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. www.shoptgw.com
