Drive Safe Hampton Roads: Get It Together High School Seat Belt Challenge 2013

DRIVE SAFE HAMPTON ROADS TEAMS UP WITH COMMUNITY TRAFFIC SAFETY GROUPS TO INCREASE SEAT BELT USE AMONG TEENS

Twenty eight area high schools will compete to increase seat belt use including Warhill High School, Jamestown High School, Lafayette High School.

Twenty eight local high schools will compete in the 2013-2014 Get It Together High School Seat Belt Challenge. Led by Drive Safe Hampton Roads and supported by local traffic safety groups, Get It Together aims to increase seat belt use and improve driving behaviors for all teens in Hampton Roads, in an effort to save young lives. Get It Together consists of a student driven education program and observational seat belt checks in school parking lots.

The Get It Together Challenge is in its fifteenth consecutive year and has successfully increased seat belt use in the Hampton Roads area each year. Last year’s contest, completed in spring 2013, included 30 schools and over 43,000 students, with an average increase in seat belt use of 8.3%. This year’s contest includes 28 schools representing the cities of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, James City County, Norfolk, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Hampton, Suffolk, and Newport News. Drive Safe Hampton Roads joins with its community partners – AAA Tidewater Virginia, GEICO, Capital Concrete, Inc, State Farm, and DMV: The Virginia Highway Safety Office – as the sponsors of the Get It Together High School Safety Belt Challenge for the 2013–2014 school year.

Drive Safe Hampton Roads is a 25 year-old non-profit organization with a mission to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities on the roadways.
