Donizetti’s Don Pasquale is a scintillating comedy with a timeless message: it is not a good idea for an old bachelor to marry a
young woman. Opera in Williamsburg presents yet another superb international cast who will bring it to life brilliantly. Marco Nistico from Italy excels in the title role of the old bachelor who, failing to convince his nephew and presumed heir Ernesto to take the proper wife he chooses for him, decides to marry a young bride himself. Meechot Marrero from Puerto Rico shines as Norina,
the vivacious widow that the nephew is in love with. Pedro Quiralte-Gomez from Spain, who was the wonderful Belcore in opera in Williamsburg’s Elixir of Love in Oct. 2012, returns as Dr. Malatesta, the friend and confidante of Ernesto and Norina. USA tenor Tommy Wazelle embodies the love-lorn Ernesto beautifully. All four shine both as singers and as comedic actors.
